    Who's who
LIANG HAITANG, the Yangtze Focal Project Leader, originally hails from Hunan Province where WWF's project sites are located. Since joining the WWF China Programme Office in September 1998, her main role has been to work towards bringing partners together to achieve the joint goals of conserving and restoring the wetlands of the Central Yangtze Ecoregion. Bringing a diverse group of people together poses many challenges and calls for a high level of diplomacy and commitment. However, both partners as well as team members have benefitted by building skills, knowledge and mutual understanding. For Haitang, it has been especially rewarding to observe the growing recognition and respect for WWF's work in this area.

Haitang previously served as a geographical researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Returning to her hometown province has enabled her to become better acquainted with the area, and discover her love of boating over the vast water surface and enjoying the beauty of the open marshland.

ZHANG YIFEI is the Yangtze Focal Project Communication Manager and is based in the Changsha Field Office in Hunan Province. He has been with the WWF China Programme Office since July 2001 and deals with wetland conservation and restoration in the Central Yangtze Ecoregion. Prior to joining WWF, Yifei was already a nature enthusiast with a keen interest in bird-watching and wildlife photography.

While working as a correspondent at Xinhua News Agency for five years, Yifei made important contributions in the field of environmental journalism, which included an influential series of reports on wetland restoration. Although finding ways to balance development and conservation poses a constant challenge, Yifei enjoys "working for nature, and working in nature". He considers the opportunity to enjoy the vibrant wetland environment and its abundant wildlife, as well as meet local residents to be some of the most rewarding aspects of his job.
